Big celebrations at end of Southern Africa Leaders Conference in Zimbabwe
Justin Renton • June 30, 2019
Thirtieth birthdays are special for everyone, even churches. The Harare International Church of Christ celebrated theirs by hosting the first-ever Southern African Leadership Conference to be held in Zimbabwe in mid-June.
The weekend of teaching ended with the appointment of Edwin Shumba as evangelist and a big birthday cake after the Sunday service.
Mike and Anne-Brigitte Taliaferro, who were at the very first service of the church in 1989, were also on hand to join the celebrations, after completing their teaching duties. Nearly 1000 people were in attendance at the Sunday service.
New friends were made while old friendships were renewed.
Doreen Chikambo Malambo, who was in attendance, had this to say on Facebook, "Beautiful time indeed. Great lessons too. It was amazing to see great leaders and all the disciples from different countries. Zimbabwe, you did great to bring us all together."
The Harare church did an amazing job in bringing together disciples from across the southern African regions.
Before the conference, four disciples reflected on what the church's celebration means to them, read what they had to say.
Four months since his appointment as the first biblical teacher in our Zimbabwean family of churches, Thabani Mashava is enjoying his role in fostering spiritual growth among believers in Harare and the rest of the Southern African region of churches. His teaching centres around an African context.
The Botswana International Church of Christ hosted its first Swamp Camp, had a groundbreaking ceremony for a missions hall, revived teen Bible Discussions and hosted a marrieds retreat.
The church in Madagascar focused on deepening our relationships with the Fathee and one another. We delved into Bible study, and mentoring and hosted our third youth camp.
